How we practise
Wellspring Quality Care, Inc. uses a blend of primary therapeutic models so that the children and youth in this program are respected, involved, and given the greatest chance to learn and use new skills. The program combines a client-centred approach with trauma-informed practice.
We believe that all individuals, regardless of ability or disability, have unique values, personalities, histories, and goals. All individuals have an equal right to participate fully in their lives, to be honoured for their personal thoughts and ideas, and to be treated with dignity and respect.
The client-centred approach is an interactive process with the young person, their care providers, the Wellspring team, the extended team of supports, and the young person’s family. People belong to a collaborative process. The focus is on the individual rather than on the issues, and on strengths and abilities rather than on barriers.
- The young person is in the conversation, not talked about from the hallway.
- Family and the extended support team are part of the work.
- Plans name strengths and abilities, not only risks.
Mission
Wellspring Quality Care, Inc. is dedicated to empowering at-risk youth in our community to make positive life choices that enable them to maximize their individual potential. Our firm belief is that every child deserves a chance, if given the right support and encouragement.
Empowering youth and children means real chances to practise skills in the home, in culture, and in the community. That range of practice is how confidence grows, and how a young person collects practical tools for the next obstacle.
Belonging, Mastery, Independence, Generosity
Wellspring Quality Care, Inc. believes that holistic teachings based on the Circle of Courage model can be used to identify issues affecting our children and to guide our healing response. Shown as a circle with four supports, the model names what has to stay strong: Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity.
Through a variety of therapeutic and cultural environments, children and youth can learn new ways of developing those four areas. This approach lets them build a wider set of skills and more confidence in their abilities, and gather the tools to meet obstacles.
Core values
Relationships
Positive change is fostered through healthy relationship building based on trust, respect, and mutuality.
Staff stay consistent so trust has time to form.
Culture
Traditional teachings play a significant role in one’s healing journey. We encourage and support our youth to participate in traditional ceremonies.
Ceremony and traditional teaching are offered, not imposed.
Advocacy
The children and youth we serve will be empowered to become involved in the decisions that affect their lives.
Youth help make the decisions that affect them.
Teaching
Our ultimate goal is to instill life skills training so that our children and youth become independent adults, capable of making healthy decisions.
Life skills are practised in the house, not only described.
Belonging
We provide our children and youth with opportunities to stay connected with their communities so that healthy positive attachments are fostered.
Connection to the young person’s own community is protected.
